DCC 1.3.43 upgrade

I can neither see the problem nor reproduce it on my old Linux test
system.  In the vague hope that it results from yet another Linux
upward-incompatible "improvement," probably to /bin/sh, I've released
version 1.3.44 with a homedir/Makefile with fewer backslashes.
