benchmarking body checksums

	... I had hoped for a significant speed increase compared with
	gcc, given that Intel should know best how to optimize for their
	processors.  Unfortunately, the converse is true: with my 3d
	wave code, running times for a small test case are:

	  gcc2.95.2: 101 s
	  intel icc: 395 s

	That is not exactly a significant speed boost, as hoped for...
