Some unsolicited bulk email or spam is sent via "dictionary attacks" or to common names at domains without any evidence that the names were ever valid. Spammers mix names from lists of names seen elsewhere with arbitrary domain names in the reasonable expectation that some of the resulting combinations are valid.
Until 2004 this page was a list of commonly seen names used as "spam traps" by the the Rhyolite Software LLC mail system. Since then that list stopped being maintained and the Rhyolite Software LLC mail system to use a "catch all" alias to report mail addressed to invalid mailboxes to the DCC as spam. This makes all invalid mailboxes "spam traps."
Contact vjs@rhyolite.com by mail or using the form. Do not send mail to the spam trap.
